Don't lose a pound of fat
Gain a pound of skinny!
It's only a matter of how you look at it.
Losing Drags You Down!
Nobody likes losing! It's a downer! It is a natural human trait to hate losing. You've lost something and it must be found! You feel an urgency. Maybe you lose sleep over it! Losing sucks!
Dieting is depressing. They tell you, or worse, you tell yourself that you have to lose weight -- or else! But losing weight sucks. You have to deprive yourself, eat funky tasting stuff means losing some of your self, some of your substance, some of your very flesh and you have to be happy about it. This is nuts! There has to be a better way.

The Scaleside Chat:
A Positive Mental Attitude
|
Let's face it, dieting sucks. No matter which diet you follow or if your motivation to lose weight is for health or rehabilitation for agility or looking better, dieting is not easy. Exercise is not easy. We all know that going from not dieting or exercising to charging full steam with both dieting and exercising.
It's not that you just have to change the whole rhythm of your life. It's more than just denying yourself the pleasure and, yes, comfort of eating delicious foods. It's not just having to wrestle fundamental and ancient evolutionary urges that tell our bodies to store excess energy as fat to prevent starvation in seasonal lean times. The problem with dieting is losing a piece oneself, literally and figuratively. And we must all start from a place of dissatisfaction with ourselves for being overweight or we wouldn't be motivated to lose weight in the first place. For all the happiness we will feel when we reach our goal weight there is always a sense of giving up on something familiar for chancing an uncertain future down a too long too difficult sometimes tortuous route. A route we all know so well. In my case, the beginning of the course is heavily trampled while the rest of the trail remains untrod. The only way to manage everything outside the actual mechanics of building new eating and exercise habits is to develop a positive mental attitude that can carry you over the tough spots in a diet, especially long diets for losing substantial weight. A positive mental attitude, or PMA, is a must for the competition of difficult tasks. Gaining Skinny is a system for building and maintaining a supportive PMA. |
